Recruit our children into military: Veterans Association appeals to gov't
The Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG) has appealed to the government to enrol their wards into the military, as a remembrance initiative.
The veterans bemoaned they were being overlooked during enlistment and recruitment into the military. They described this as "worrying," urging the government to address this.
Ex-WO1 George Appiah, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association, told Kumasi FM's Elisha Adarkwah that recruiting their children into the army would better serve them and make them feel fulfilled.
On the sidelines of the 80th Remembrance Day Service held at the Cenotaph in Kumasi today, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, he listed several challenges they faced, including issues concerning their welfare.
While urging the government to increase their pension payments to enable them to care of their families, Mr Appiah also appealed for better accommodation and improved healthcare provision.
Gracing the solemn ceremony, where wreaths were laid in remembrance of the fallen heroes and heroines, was Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti regional minister.
He commended the veterans for their dedication and service to Ghana and the world at large.
