Security officials report smooth military recruitment after previous day's stampede in Kumasi
National Security operatives have described today's military recruitment process at Baba Yara Sports Stadium as "smooth" following yesterday's stampede that resulted in multiple casualties.
According to the Ghana Ambulance Service, 22 casualties were recorded during yesterday's incident, with six individuals rushed to the hospital for treatment.
However, Captain (Rtd) Kwame Jabari, the Regional Security Coordinator, confirmed to the media that Thursday's proceedings had proceeded without incident.
"Today's process has gone smoothly with no casualties recorded," he told Kumasi FM's Elisha Adarkwah.
Security officials implemented several measures to manage crowd sizes, including rescheduling the Navy and Air Force recruitment exercise for Saturday.
"Today, we are only handling the armed forces and working to decrease the crowd at the stadium compared to yesterday," Captain Jabari explained.
Additional provisions, including PA systems and canopies, were also deployed to facilitate a more organised process.
Abdullai Janifaro, Deputy Chief Advanced Emergency Medical Technologist overseeing medical services at the stadium, corroborated the improved management of today's event while reflecting on yesterday's challenges.
The enhanced safety measures appear to have effectively prevented a recurrence of yesterday's incidents, allowing recruitment activities to proceed in a calm and orderly manner.
