Student Injured after clash between schools at Agona Swedru athletics event
A sporting event meant to celebrate student talent ended in chaos after a violent confrontation between students left one person hospitalised.
The incident occurred during the District Schools Athletics Games held in Agona Swedru, where students from Obrachire Senior High Technical School and Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) reportedly got into a heated clash.
Reports indicate that tensions escalated on Thursday, February 19, during the competition, resulting in an attack on a student from Obrachire.
According to eyewitness accounts, the student was surrounded by a group of rival students who allegedly threw stones and struck him with sticks.
Videos circulating online show parts of the confrontation before the injured student was taken to a hospital for medical attention.
School authorities confirmed that the case has been reported to the police, and investigations are currently underway.
The incident has renewed concerns about rising violence during inter-school sporting events.
In a separate recent case, a student from Koforidua Senior High Technical School was stabbed during the Eastern Regional Inter-Schools Sports Festival.
In response to earlier misconduct at another competition hosted at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Nkawie Senior High Technical School was also banned from extracurricular activities in the Ashanti Region for two years.
