The Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin, Kofi Obiri Yeboah, has appealed to the government and President John Dramani Mahama to support victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Anwona Market in his constituency.

The fire, which occurred on Monday, January 26, 2026, destroyed about 100 shops and led to the loss of goods and property estimated to be worth hundreds of Ghana cedis.

Traders affected by the incident have since called on the government and well-meaning individuals to assist them in rebuilding their businesses.

Mr Yeboah visited the scene of the disaster to commiserate with the victims and donated about 150 pieces of clothing and several bags of rice to provide immediate relief.

Expressing his sympathy, the MP said the scale of destruction requires broader support beyond local interventions. He referenced the government’s assistance to victims of the recent disaster in Ketu South, describing it as appropriate and necessary.

He, therefore, urged President Mahama to extend similar support to the traders in Subin to help them recover during the difficult period.

According to Mr Yeboah, the impact of the fire is beyond the capacity of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), and even his personal resources, stressing the need for national assistance.
