United Nigeria Airlines names aircraft after J.J. Rawlings
In a notable tribute to cross-border leadership and legacy, United Nigeria Airlines has named one of its aircraft after the late former President of Ghana, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings.
The dedication was marked on Monday, November 11, with the inaugural flight of the newly named aircraft from Abuja, Nigeria, to Accra, Ghana.
The aircraft now bears the inscription: “Lt. J.J. Rawlings – The Legend Lives On…”
The gesture highlights the enduring respect and recognition for President Rawlings beyond Ghana’s borders, particularly within the West African sub-region.
As a founding father of Ghana’s Fourth Republic and a central figure in the nation’s political history, Rawlings’ influence continues to resonate across spheres, including governance, pan-Africanism, and regional cooperation.
A representative from United Nigeria Airlines stated that the tribute reflects the airline’s commitment to honouring African icons who have shaped the continent’s history and fostered unity.
The naming ceremony not only strengthens aviation ties between Nigeria and Ghana but also symbolises a shared heritage and mutual respect between the two nations.
