The Management of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Accra West, has announced a temporary shutdown of water production at the Weija Treatment Plant to enable urgent repairs on a major faulty transmission line.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the company revealed that one of the primary pipelines transporting treated water to the western parts of Accra had developed serious perforations.

GWCL warned that the line could collapse entirely if the defect was not fixed immediately, prompting the scheduled shutdown.

The repair works are set for Thursday, December 4, from 6 AM. to 6 PM, and will result in a 12-hour interruption in water supply to several heavily populated communities.

Areas expected to be affected include Korle-Bu, Dansoman, Mamprobi, parts of Weija, Gbawe, Malam, Anyaa, Kwashieman, Ablekuma, Darkuman, Kaneshie, Tesano, Odorkor, Sowutuom, Lapaz, parts of Achimota, the North Industrial Area, and surrounding communities.

GWCL assured residents that production would resume immediately after the repair work was completed.

The company has encouraged households and businesses in the affected areas to store enough water ahead of the shutdown.
