The Awutu Ofaakor Circuit Court has remanded 12 National Security officers and two notorious landguards in police custody for two weeks over the unlawful demolition of more than 60 buildings in Gomoa Akoti, Gomoa Ojobi, all in the Central Region.

The suspects face charges including conspiracy, using force to prevent lawful landowners from accessing their property, causing fear, and obstructing development.

They are scheduled to reappear in court on March 4, 2026.

Residents of the area welcomed the court’s ruling, expressing hope that it will deter future illegal activities.

“Finally, justice is being served,” said one local resident.

Traditional authorities have called for jail sentences, citing the trauma inflicted on affected families and emphasising the need for accountability.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the involvement of National Security personnel in land disputes, prompting calls for internal investigations and appropriate action against officers implicated in such cases.

Gomoa Akoti residents, long living under the threat of landguard intimidation, are now breathing a sigh of relief.

The case has also highlighted the broader challenges of land disputes and the role of security agencies in Ghana.
