Two students have been arrested within 24 hours in connection with the assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School, following swift action by school authorities and the police after a disturbing video of the incident went viral.

The development was disclosed by the Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ghana Police Service (GPS), Yaako Donkor, in a Facebook update, where she confirmed that instructions had been issued to school authorities to immediately produce those involved in the attack.

According to her, the directive yielded results within a day.

“Within 24 hours of my directive to school authorities to produce the students involved in the assault, action was taken. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the assault on a student of Obrachire Senior High Technical School, an incident captured in a viral video that generated widespread public concern,” she stated.

Police said the arrests were carried out on Sunday, February 23, 2026, at about 9 PM.

Authorities of Swedru School of Business, led by the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Domestic Affairs, Michael Nii Kwaku Buxton, apprehended the two suspects and handed them over to the Ghana Police Service at the Agona Swedru Divisional CID to assist with investigations.

The suspects were identified as 18-year-olds Benedict Appiah and Bilal Mamud.

The CID commended the school for acting promptly and cooperating with law enforcement.

“The CID acknowledges and appreciates the prompt action taken by the school authorities in ensuring that the suspects were handed over without delay. Investigations remain ongoing,” Donkor added.

She further called on all other individuals linked to the incident to voluntarily report to the police, warning that failure to comply would lead to arrests.

“All other individuals connected to the assault are directed to voluntarily report to assist with investigations. Failure to do so will result in them being tracked, arrested, and made to face the full rigors of the law,” she cautioned.

Reiterating the police’s stance, Donkor stressed that violence in schools would not be tolerated.

“Violence in our educational institutions will not be tolerated. Discipline, safety, and accountability in our schools remain non-negotiable.”

The case continues to attract public attention as investigations proceed.
