C/R: Man, 30, slits throat after butchering wife
A husband has slit his own throat after butchering his wife with a machete at Assin Gyinawobodee Koforidua in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, committed the dastardly crime Tuesday (31 August 2021) evening.
His neighbours thwarted his post-homicide suicide attempt.
They rushed him to the St. Francis Catholic Hospital at Assin Fosu for treatment.
The body of his wife has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for preservation and autopsy.
The Assin Fosu police command says the suspect will be arraigned once healed and discharged.
On the same day, a man in his 50s, Thomas Kontoh, hanged himself after also hacking his wife to death at Gbetsile Soldier Line in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The husband, according to eyewitness reports, broke into Lydia Amponsah’s room around 1:30 am with a machete and hacked her in the head several times leaving her with fatal gashes.
A niece to the deceased said Mr Kontoh also chased after her with the intention to kill her as well.
He later hanged himself.
Police from the Atadeka Zenu police command conveyed the bodies to the morgue.
