C/R: Newborn baby girl abandoned at Gomoa Nyanyano; police launch manhunt for mother
A newborn baby girl has been discovered abandoned in a polythene bag at Fiifi Prat, a suburb of Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The infant, with her umbilical cord still attached, was found in a bush near a fenced wall.
Residents who discovered the baby acted swiftly, rushing her to a nearby clinic for emergency treatment before she was referred to the Mother and Child Hospital at Kasoa for specialised care.
The Chairman of the Fiifi Prat Landlord Association, Mr Charles Oduro, told Accra FM news that the prompt intervention by residents was crucial in saving the baby’s life.
Confirming the incident, the Central Regional Coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), DSP Doris Laryea, said the baby is currently in the care of the Department of Social Welfare.
She noted that police investigations are ongoing to locate the mother and determine the circumstances that led to the abandonment.
The police have appealed to the public to assist with information that could aid the investigations.
