Citizen Ato Dadzie praises Lordina Mahama's humility
Ato Dadzie, General Secretary of the Ghana Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), has described First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama as a true model of humility, discipline, and exemplary conduct for women who find themselves close to power and high public office.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Citizen Show, hosted by Nana Otu Darko, Citizen Ato Dadzie said Lordina Mahama’s life in public service represents a rare example of dignity and restraint in Ghana’s political space.
According to him, Lordina Mahama has passed through every major phase of political leadership as a woman.
She has been the wife of a Member of Parliament, wife of a Vice President, wife of a President, wife of a former President, and is once again the wife of a sitting President.
Despite occupying these sensitive positions, Citizen Ato Dadzie noted that there has never been a single controversy linked to her name.
“You can talk about her anywhere, and you will not hear that she has done something wrong,” he stated.
Citizen Ato Dazi contrasted her conduct with that of some wives of parliamentary, vice-presidential, and presidential candidates whose actions, words, and public posture often attract criticism.
He said some women who come close to power become unapproachable and distant from ordinary people.
However, he stressed that Lordina Mahama is different.
“When people try to prevent others from getting close to her, she would rather say they should be allowed to come to her,” he said.
He also praised the work of the Lordina Foundation, describing it as one of the most impactful humanitarian initiatives run by a First Lady in Ghana.
He noted that aside from the legacy of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and the 31st December Women’s Movement, Lordina Mahama has used her position to set a lasting standard in supporting women, children, and vulnerable communities.
Citizen Ato Dadzie emphasised that even when President John Dramani Mahama lost power and became an ex-President, Lordina Mahama continued her humanitarian work without interruption, proving that her commitment was not dependent on political office.
Touching on political attacks, Citizen Ato Dadzie observed that in politics, people often say very painful things about leaders and their families.
He pointed out that while many would react with anger or confrontation, Lordina Mahama does not respond to insults or provocations.
“People say very painful things about her husband, but she doesn’t respond.
She keeps her posture and her dignity,” he said.
He cited public accounts, including remarks previously made by Kennedy Agyapong, about meeting Lordina Mahama at an airport and being struck by her humility.
He also referenced instances where people publicly refused to shake hands with political figures, yet Lordina Mahama remained calm and respectful.
Citizen Ato Dadzie further recalled an incident involving Evangelist Mama Pat, who was alleged to have disrespected President Mahama.
Despite this, Lordina Mahama was seen sharing a warm hug with her — a gesture he described as a sign of maturity and a deep understanding of public office.
According to Citizen Ato Dadzie, these actions show that Lordina Mahama understands the office her husband occupies and knows how to carry herself as a woman in high political space.
“She understands how to engage people, how to relate with people, and how to react when people speak badly.
That is very important in public life,” he said.
He concluded that Lordina Mahama remains a high standard of motivation for both women and men, especially politicians, adding that how public figures receive and react to criticism matters greatly.
Citizen Ato Dadzie ended by praying for strength, guidance, and continued grace for the First Lady as she continues her service to humanity.
