The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team has arrested three suspects in the Volta Region for allegedly impersonating the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and other high-profile personalities on social media to defraud unsuspecting victims.

The suspects are believed to be involved in multiple forms of cyber fraud, including mobile money scams, credit card fraud, airtime sales fraud and online sales fraud, carried out across various social media platforms.

Those arrested have been identified as Gideon Awudi, 25; Edem Soku, 33; and Judith Soku, 31.

They were apprehended at Sogakope and Dabala following a sustained intelligence-led operation conducted in the Sogakope, Dzodzent and Penyi areas of the Volta Region.

According to authorities, the suspects allegedly used fake social media accounts bearing the names and images of prominent public officials to gain the trust of victims before defrauding them.

The three are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations, while efforts continue to identify and arrest other persons who may be linked to the alleged criminal network.

Law enforcement agencies have once again cautioned the public to be vigilant on social media and to verify the authenticity of accounts before engaging in any financial transactions online.
