Deputy A-G accused of making baseless claims against Adu-Boahene and wife during bail hearing

During a hearing at the Accra Human Rights Court on March 28, 2025, to review the bail conditions of Mr. Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, the Deputy Attorney-General, Srem Sai, alleged that Mrs. Boateng attempted to destroy evidence by moving large sums of money into suitcases on the night she was informed of her husband’s arrest.
The claim was made in an effort to oppose the application for a reduction in the couple’s bail conditions, with the Deputy AG arguing that the pair posed a significant flight risk due to their multiple citizenships.
However, the claim has been strongly disputed, with critics describing it as unfounded and lacking in evidence. According to sources close to the accused, no proof has been presented to substantiate the allegation that Mrs. Boateng tampered with or attempted to conceal evidence.
In fact, thorough searches were reportedly conducted at the couple’s private residence, and to date, no evidence has emerged to support any of the criminal allegations made by the Attorney-General’s Office against them.
Observers say the Deputy AG’s assertions appear speculative and risk undermining the credibility of the state’s case. Legal analysts warn that unsubstantiated claims in court could raise concerns about the fairness of proceedings and the presumption of innocence.
