'False narrative': Miracles Aboagye says EOCO never questioned him over alleged GHS55m scandal

Miracles Aboagye is a vocal critic of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC)

Popular New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Dennis 'Miracles' Aboagye has revealed he was never questioned by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) about the alleged GHS55 million scandal at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

Mr Aboagye made the claim in his first public statement on Wednesday after his release from EOCO custody on Tuesday.

He had been arrested at the Accra International Airport on the evening of Saturday, July 11, 2026. On Monday, he was granted GHS50 million bail with three sureties, two of whom must justify the bail with properties of equivalent value.

In his July 15 Facebook post, Mr Aboagye rejected reports linking his interrogation to the alleged GHS55 million case.

"FOR THE RECORDS: THERE WAS NO Discussion OF ANY GH¢55million cedis with me by EOCO. None!!!" he wrote.

He maintained that a "false narrative" had been created about the reasons for his arrest.

"Four days ago, just one day after I declared my intention to serve our great party as National Communications Director, I was picked up and detained by EOCO. A false narrative was put out about my arrest, but Ghanaians are not fools, and neither are the good people of the New Patriotic Party. The facts and the truth will prevail!!" he declared.

Mr Aboagye also thanked NPP supporters who demonstrated and spoke publicly in his defence during his detention.

He said, "To every party faithful who hit the streets, who raised their voices, who refused to be silent, I saw you. I heard you."

He added that the detention had strengthened, rather than weakened, his resolve.

"Let me be clear: if the intention was to break me, it has failed. If the intention was to scare me, it has failed spectacularly," he said.

EOCO is investigating alleged financial irregularities at IMCCoD. The agency has previously stated that the investigation involves former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah, who it says has begun refunding part of the alleged misappropriated funds.

The investigation remains ongoing.
