Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport over allegations that he attempted to access funds in a frozen bank account.

According to Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem Sai, Mr Abdul-Wahab was intercepted by law enforcement officers while preparing to travel to the United Kingdom, despite having obtained permission from the Accra High Court for a short trip.

The Deputy Attorney General alleged that investigations indicate the former NAFCO CEO attempted to use false means to empty a Republic Bank account that had been frozen as part of asset preservation measures pending the outcome of criminal proceedings against him.

Mr Abdul-Wahab is currently standing trial on charges including stealing and causing financial loss to the state.

Dr Srem Sai also disclosed that the Attorney General is expected to apply on July 6 for a review of the High Court's decision granting Mr Abdul-Wahab permission to travel outside the country.
