Japanese busted upon request by INTERPOL
A Japanese national, Morikawa Hikawu has been arrested in Ghana upon a request by INTERPOL Tokyo, following a revocation of his passport by Japan.
The suspect was arraigned and remanded into lawful custody awaiting his removal from the country.
The INTERPOL Unit of the Ghana Police Service said it is working with the Ghana Immigration Service, INTERPOL Tokyo and the Japanese Embassy in Ghana for his removal.
The police in a statement assured the public that they will continue to use due process to deepen the country’s regional and international law enforcement cooperation.
Morikawa Hikawu and his collaborators are believed to have swindled $11,000 from two men they got acquainted with on social media using fake identities between 2019 and 2020.
