Key suspect arrested in connection with Ahmed Suale’s murder

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Akwasi Amakye, in connection with the 2019 killing of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
Reports indicate that Amakye, a former colleague of Suale at Tiger Eye Private Investigations, allegedly leaked his photos to a politician before the tragic incident.
Following the murder, Amakye fled to the UK but recently returned to Ghana, leading to his arrest at a salon in Amasaman-Adease.
The FBI reportedly provided crucial phone records linking him to Suale before his death, strengthening the case against him.
However, the arrest has sparked controversy, as reports suggest that a high-ranking police officer is attempting to secure Amakye’s release on inquiry bail.
This has raised concerns about potential interference in the case.
Ahmed Suale, who was known for his investigative work with the BBC and Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was shot near his home in Madina in 2019—a crime that shocked the nation and the global media community.
It will be recalled that the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) had given the police an ultimatum to arrest the perpetrators by the end of March, warning that failure to do so would prompt them to escalate the case to the International Court of Justice.
While the arrest brings some relief to the media community, many believe that the police could have acted more swiftly in delivering justice for Suale.
