Police arrest two over viral video of child abuse at Agona Jamasi
The Ghana Police Service has arrested two persons in connection with a viral video showing the physical abuse of a child at Agona Jamasi, following swift intervention by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
The arrests followed routine cyber patrols, which detected the disturbing video circulating on TikTok and other social media platforms, triggering widespread public concern and calls for police action.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the video was first posted by a TikTok user identified as Tina Adjei, with the handle @tina.adjei7.
The footage showed an 11-year-old girl being physically assaulted by a young man, in the presence of an elderly woman later identified as the child’s grandmother.
Acting on the information, police moved to Agona Jamasi, where a 75-year-old woman, Grace Mensah, was arrested.
She identified herself as the grandmother and caregiver of the victim.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the suspect seen in the video, Godfred Osei Akoto, aged 25.
In his statement to police, Osei Akoto said the incident occurred on December 6, 2025, after the child, who lives with her grandmother, left home and did not return.
He claimed he later found her around 12:12 a.m. near the Presbyterian School in the area.
According to the suspect, he assaulted the child after receiving authorisation from the grandmother to punish her.
This account was later confirmed by Grace Mensah during police interrogation.
The victim has since been rescued and is currently under protection, while both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DVVSU) to assist with further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to protecting children and urged the public to report all cases of abuse, emphasising that no form of violence against children will be tolerated.
