Police rescue allegedly abducted baby, arrest suspect in Abossey Okai Zongo
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has rescued a baby allegedly abducted from the Mamprobi Polyclinic and arrested a suspect at Abossey Okai Zongo in the Greater Accra Region.
The arrest followed a tip-off from residents who reportedly became suspicious after seeing the woman with a baby, believed to be unfamiliar to the community.
According to the baby’s father, Kwame Agyemang, residents indicated that they had previously seen the suspect without a child, and therefore grew concerned when they noticed her breastfeeding a baby.
Speaking in an interview on Ghana Yensom Morning Show hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Mr. Agyemang explained that the information provided by vigilant community members led to the suspect’s arrest.
The belated father thanked the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South and the Member of Parliament for Ododododiodio Constitencies for their roles in having the culprit arrested.
The MP for Ablekuma South, Alfred Okoh Vanderpuije, also speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, thanked the Minister for Gender, Child and Social Protection, as well as the Ablekuma West and Ablekuma South Police for the excellent jobs
Police had earlier launched a search for the woman following reports that a baby had been taken from its mother at the Manprobi Polyclinic under circumstances that remain under investigation.
The suspect is alleged to have left the health facility with the infant after reportedly taking the child from the mother.
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that the baby has been rescued, while investigations continue into the incident. Authorities have commended residents for their vigilance and cooperation, emphasising the importance of community support in crime prevention and child protection efforts.
