Police restore calm after youth clashes at Mankessim Shell Fuel Station
Police have restored calm at Mankessim following a clash between rival youth groups near the Shell fuel station on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
According to police reports, the Mankessim Police received a distress call at about 7:20 p.m. indicating that a group of youth were fighting at the fuel station.
A night patrol team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon the arrival of the police, the youth involved in the clash fled in different directions while pelting stones at each other. The patrol team pursued the suspects but was unable to make any arrests.
A subsequent search of the area also failed to locate the troublemakers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that earlier that day, around 2:00 p.m., a group of youth from Eyisam had attended a wedding in Mankessim.
During the event, they received information that one of their colleagues had allegedly been attacked and beaten by some Mankessim youth at the Accra lorry station while attempting to board a vehicle to Eyisam.
After the wedding, the Eyisam youth reportedly went to the Accra lorry station to confront the alleged assailant.
Upon arrival, a person was identified to them as the individual who attacked their colleague.
The youth chased the suspected aggressor into a nearby food joint popularly known as the “Chicken Man’s” shop, close to the Shell fuel station.
In the process, one of the glass doors at the shop was damaged.
The Eyisam youth later retreated from the area, but moments later, some Mankessim youth rushed to the scene, leading to stone-throwing between the two groups.
The confrontation ended when police arrived, causing both groups to flee.
Meanwhile, the injured victim, identified only as Wisdom, was rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH), where he is currently responding to treatment.
Police say calm has since been restored, and the area was closely monitored throughout the night. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
