Tema police seize suspected Indian hemp, arrest truck driver on Tema–Ada road
The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted 12 sacks and 80 parcels of compressed plant material suspected to be Indian hemp during an operation on the Tema–Ada road, leading to the arrest of a truck driver.
The seizure was made on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit. The substances were reportedly concealed in a container inside a Hyundai Mighty II truck and wrapped in sellotape.
Police identified the driver as Bismark Koprneno, who allegedly failed to stop when signaled and attempted to evade arrest before being pursued and arrested at Bondase.
“A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape,” the police statement said.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspected drugs were loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada.
The suspect is in custody assisting investigations, while the vehicle and exhibits have been impounded. The police said they remain committed to tackling drug trafficking and urged the public to provide credible information to support law enforcement efforts.
