Workers now conspiring with criminals to rob their own companies – Police
The Volta regional police command has arrested five more suspects in connection with the robbery of a company and its occupants of a vehicle at Anlo-Afiadanyigba and observed that staff of companies are now conniving with gangs to rob the institutions they work with.
The latest arrests bring the number of suspects arrested in relation to the case to 10.
A statement from the police signed by Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director, Public Affairs, said on 1 October 2021, a police-community partnership-led operation resulted in the initial arrest of five suspects: Haruna Toboloka, 36; Akwasi Owusu, 18; Famous Normesi, 29; Lumor, 32 and Korku Ahadzi, 39.
The police said its intelligence later led to the arrest of two other suspects linked to the robbery who were trying to escape to Togo.
They are Ahadzi Anane, 26; and Ahadzi Kwame, 33.
The statement said “further intense police investigations and operations have resulted in the arrest of three other suspects, two of whom are staff of the company that was robbed”.
The police said “the names of these three suspects are being withheld for the moment because of the nature of the ongoing investigations”.
“The police would like to state that we have been recording a trend of some staff conspiring with criminals to rob their companies. We, therefore, urge business owners to thoroughly screen and monitor any potential staff before and after employment”, the statement noted.
The police said it is ready to offer its assistance if required.
