2020 BECE: WAEC releases results, 417 cancelled, 977 withheld
The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has cancelled the results of 417 candidates who sat for the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This follows the release of the provisional results for this year’s examination by the Council on Wednesday, 16 December 2020.
WAEC in a statement said it will "dispatch the results to the schools through the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education.”
However, candidates who desire to check their results can do so on the council’s website as it has hosted them online.
The WAEC also cancelled the Subject Results of “417 candidates for bringing foreign material into the examination hall and engaging in collusion.”
Also, the entire results of 44 candidates were cancelled “for bringing mobile phones into the examination hall" while the subject results of 977 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of alleged examination malpractice.
“The withheld results of candidates may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of the investigations,” the statement noted.
A total of 531,707 candidates made up of 269,408 males and 262,299 females sat for this year’s examination.
This year’s figure is 2.78% higher than the 2019 candidature of 517,332.
