COVID-19: Final-year JHS students back in school tomorrow
Final year Junior High School (JHS) students are scheduled to return to school tomorrow, Monday, 29 June 2020, after three months of being home following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The students will be in school for 11 weeks for preparation and revision before spending the following one week to take their final Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
This was disclosed by President Nana Akufo-Addo in a televised address to the nation on Sunday, 28 June 2020.
Under the new protocols to keep the students safe, all Junior High Schools have been fumigated and disinfected.
Additionally, the government says it has secured and distributed 45,000 veronica buckets, 90,000 gallons of liquid soap, 90,000 rolls of tissue paper, 40,000 thermometer guns, 7,200 pieces of sanitisers, 2.2 million reusable facemasks - three per person - all to guarantee the safety of the students, teachers and non-teaching staff.
President Akufo-Addo announced that there will be no more than 30 students in a class and there will be a reduced school day with students reporting to school at 9 am and closing at 1 pm.
“No breaks outside the classroom will be permitted, assemblies and sporting events are banned and schools used by outsiders for religious and other activities are prohibited,” Nana Akufo-Addo added.
