GA/R: Education USA Advisory Centre launched in Osu
The Education USA Advisory Centre has been launched in Osu, Accra.
The launch took place at the brand new office in the Pure Obsession building on the Oxford Street.
The event brought together officials from the US Embassy, stakeholders in the education sector, insurance executives, and the media, among others.
Addressing the audience, US Ambassador to Ghana Virginia Palmer noted the United States was a prominent destination for many Ghanaians pursuing various international degrees.
She said as much as these Ghanaians profited from American tertiary education, and its related benefits, the US also was enriched socially, and culturally, among other things, in turn.
"In many ways we are the same people," she observed, explaining this had been fostered by immigration activities between Ghana and America’s diaspora.
Ambassador Palmer underlined services at the Education USA Advisory Centre was free, helping students prospect schools in America for undergraduate and post-graduate studies, while exploring financial support for same.
Thus, she encouraged Ghanaians to take advantage of the services of Education USA.
Speaking on behalf of Dr Yaw Adutwum, the Minister of Education, Chief Director of the ministry, Mrs Mamle Andrews said it was gratifying to note America’s enduring passion to open its borders to many Ghanaian students. She expressed hope these students will return home after vigorous and successful studies to contribute to nation-building.
Osu Mantse (King) Notse Nii Nortey Owuo IV, on his part, recognised the number of women at the launch, acknowledging the role women, especially those educated, played in advancing a developing country like Ghana. He proudly noted he was a tertiary product of the American educational system. Also, he was confident Ghanaian students who left for American through the facilitation of Education USA would come back to grease the wheels of progress.
