GA/R: Parents, Students frustrated over Senior High School placement changes

Frustration is mounting among parents and students seeking changes to their Senior High School (SHS) placements, as long queues and high service charges turn the exercise into an opportunity for private businesses to cash in.
At the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) centre at Ghana National Teachers’ Hall in Adabraka near the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, hundreds of parents and students thronged the area as early as 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, hoping to amend their school choices.
Classfmonline.com observed that the demand for printing and photocopy services has created brisk business for operators who have mounted containers around the centre.
A single photocopy was being sold for GHS 2, while printing a results slip cost GHS 3.
Despite the high prices, desperate parents and students scrambled to access the services.
The situation worsened when power supply to the Adabraka enclave was interrupted, further delaying the already slow process. The long queues stretched from the Teachers’ Hall entrance toward the Accra Psychiatric Hospital area, with many clutching brown envelopes containing their documents.
Key complaints from parents included students placed in day schools instead of boarding schools and vice versa, as well as requests for transfers to preferred schools filled on the placement forms.
For many families, the placement challenges have become both emotionally draining and financially burdensome, raising fresh concerns about the efficiency of the SHS placement system.
