GA/R: Weija-Gbawe MCE donates 3,000 sanitary pads to support girl-child education

In a bid to promote girl-child education and reduce absenteeism in schools, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Weija-Gbawe, Mr. Felix Odartey Lamptey, has donated over 3,000 sanitary pads to female students across cluster schools in the municipality.
The beneficiary schools include New Gbawe M/A Basic 1 and 2, Mallam M/A 1 and 2, New Gbawe Community Basic School, New Gbawe Experimental 1 and 2, Gbawe Islamic Basic School, Gbawe Methodist Basic 1 and 2, and Gonse Basic School.
The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Municipal Education Directorate, seeks to address one of the major barriers to girls’ education — absenteeism during menstrual periods.
“Many girls miss classes during menstruation, and this affects their education.
We want to remove that barrier,” Mr. Lamptey told the media after the distribution exercise.
He further linked the donation to the government’s ongoing sanitation campaign, explaining that the beneficiary students would also serve as “sanitation ambassadors” in their schools and communities, promoting cleanliness and environmental awareness.
The gesture was warmly welcomed by both students and teachers, who expressed appreciation for the support.
Many of the beneficiaries said the pads would boost their confidence and ensure full participation in school activities.
In addition, the Municipal School Health Education Director, Madam Edna Ohui Dadeboe, used the occasion to launch a sanitation club at the Gbawe Islamic Basic School.
The club will empower students to take active roles in promoting hygiene and environmental responsibility.
The donation marks a significant step toward empowering young girls, strengthening education outcomes, and ensuring that no student is left behind due to basic health and sanitation challenges.
