The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed Heads of Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) to allow students who wish to observe Eid-ul-Adha festivities to do so on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

This was contained in a letter dated May 25, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Director-General (Q&A), Munawaru Issahaque (PhD), on behalf of the Director-General of GES.

According to the statement, Wednesday, May 27, has been declared a public holiday to mark the observance of the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

“Accordingly, Heads of Schools are requested to grant permission to students who may wish to observe the Eid festivities to do so, with the condition that they return to school by the close of the same day,” the letter stated.

GES further directed all Regional Directors of Education to bring the information to the attention of Municipal and District Directors of Education, as well as Heads of Schools within their jurisdictions for compliance.

The directive was copied to the Chairman of the GES Council, the Director-General of GES, Deputy Director-General (MS), and other directors at the GES headquarters in Accra.
