Gov’t to establish STEM laboratory in Koforidua in memory of Dr. Omane Boamah

The Government has announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art STEM laboratory facility in Koforidua in honour of the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
The project, expected to be sited at Pope John Senior High School and Junior Seminary (POJOSS) — the alma mater of Dr. Boamah — will serve as a hub of academic excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
The facility will be equipped with modern tools to train students and teachers in Artificial Intelligence, coding, robotics, and problem-solving skills.
Announcing the decision, Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, said the laboratory would be a fitting tribute to Dr. Boamah, who had pledged to help retool the school’s science lab just weeks before his sudden demise.
“Dr. Omane Boamah’s legacy will live on through this centre of excellence, which will empower young people with the innovative skills needed to drive Ghana’s future,” the Minister said.
Born and raised in Koforidua-Effiduase, with maternal roots in Kwahu, Dr. Omane Boamah was a product of Nana Kwaku Boateng and Presby B elementary schools, before continuing to POJOSS, where his love for science was nurtured.
Earlier, his family — the Mponua Royal Family — had appealed to the government to name a unit of the new Eastern Regional Hospital after him, and also erect a statue at the Abrewankwata roundabout in Koforidua.
Government, however, maintains that the STEM laboratory would provide a lasting impact by directly contributing to education and development in the region, while honouring his lifelong commitment to learning and public service
