Islamic SHS chaos: Your children safe – MoE to parents
The Ministry of Education (MoE) has assured parents, guardians and the public of the safety of their wards at the Islamic Senior High School in the Ashanti region.
The assurance comes after 38 students of the school were rushed to the hospital after they clashed with some police personnel during a demonstration.
The students were demonstrating against the frequent knockdowns near their school and in their attempts to disperse the demonstrators, the Police fired warning shots and tear gas at them.
Out of the 38 students who visited the various hospitals, 22 have been discharged as of yesterday and have joined their colleagues on campus.
On behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Deputy Minister John Ntim Fordjour accompanied by the Ashanti regional Director of Education, Mayor of Kumasi and CHASS president visited the affected students at the various health centres and also addressed the student population.
The ministry in a statement said calm has been restored on campus and academic work has resumed.
