National Labour Commission secures court injunction against 4 tertiary education unions
The National Labour Commission (NLC) has secured an interlocutory injunction from the High Court against four tertiary education unions, ordering them to immediately call off their ongoing industrial action.
In a press release dated February 13, 2026, the commission said the injunction applies to the Senior Staff Association–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), Teachers and Educational Workers Union of TUC (TEWU of TUC), Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG), and the Technical Universities Administrators Association of Ghana (TUAAG).
According to the statement, the court order restrains the respondent unions, their executives, officers, members, agents, servants and employees from continuing what the commission describes as an illegal strike.
The groups have been directed to immediately cease their industrial action pending further legal proceedings.
The NLC noted that the High Court granted the injunction on Friday, February 13, 2026.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful and harmonious industrial relations, stressing that its actions are in line with Ghana’s labour laws.
The statement was signed by Larry George Botchway, Head of Public Affairs, for the Acting Executive Secretary.
The development is expected to temporarily halt the strike action across affected tertiary institutions while the dispute is addressed through legal and regulatory channels.
