Opoku-Agyemang condemns Gov't over alleged supply of expired rice to SHSs
Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly criticized the government for reportedly supplying expired rice to Senior High Schools across the country.
This controversy surfaced when Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, revealed allegations that expired rice had been re-bagged with extended expiration dates and subsequently sent to schools.
Speaking to the chiefs and people of Sorbelle in the Sissala West Constituency during her campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang described the situation as “shameful and insensitive.”
She questioned why the government would distribute food it allegedly knew was unfit for consumption, emphasizing that students deserve to be treated with care and given safe, wholesome food.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also criticized the government for what she described as a general decline in the education sector under the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
She reassured her audience that the next NDC administration, under John Dramani Mahama, would prioritize revitalizing the education sector to ensure quality and safe provisions for all students.
Additionally, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed disappointment over the stalled development projects in the Sissala area, particularly the road projects initiated under former President Mahama’s administration, which she claims have been neglected by the current government.
She urged the electorate to vote for the NDC in the upcoming election, pledging that an NDC government would work to complete these projects and enhance infrastructure in the area.
