PAC to GES: Probe 18 teachers in Amansie Central over promotions and salary hikes
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has mandated the Ghana Education Service (GES) to launch an investigation into 18 teachers from the Amansie Central District who allegedly promoted themselves without proper authorisation, leading to an illicit increase in their salaries.
A report from the Amansie Central Education Directorate reveals that these teachers upgraded their ranks without submitting the necessary documents, resulting in a financial loss of GHS188,000 to the state.
The Amansie Central District Education Director, Vincent Ben Ameyaw, disclosed that recovery efforts are underway.
"We have been able to collect GHS34,731.53, and we are left with GHS152,966.54. We are on course collecting [the balance]," Mr. Ameyaw confirmed.
The PAC has urged the GES to accelerate the investigation process and ensure that those responsible are held accountable, stressing the importance of integrity in the education sector.
