The Governing Board of Achimota Senior High School has directed its lawyers to appeal a high court judgment that two Rastafarian boys, Tyrone Iras Marhguy and Oheneba Nkrabea, be admitted by the school.

Achimota School had denied the boys admission over their dreadlocks.

The boys and their parents fought the school in court over the matter.

The high court on Monday, 31 May 2021 ruled that the religious rights of the two boys had been violated by the school management and, therefore, ordered the school to admit them with their dreadlocks unaffected.

But reacting to the court’s decision, the Board of Governors, in a statement, said “the board disagrees with the ruling of the court”.

“The school board has, therefore, directed its lawyers to appeal against the ruling,” the statement said.
