UGMC, Ghana Medical Trust Fund hold talks on partnership and specialist training
Officials of the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abdul-Samed Tanko, on Tuesday held high-level discussions with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) to explore strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening specialist medical training in the country.
The meeting, held at the offices of the GMTF, focused on UGMC’s vision of transitioning into a fully fledged tertiary medical institution and the critical capacity gaps that must be addressed to achieve that goal.
Presenting the centre’s roadmap, Dr. Tanko indicated that targeted support from the Ghana Medical Trust Fund would be instrumental in accelerating UGMC’s transformation.
He outlined key areas requiring investment, particularly in specialist training infrastructure and human resource development.
Responding to the presentation, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Obuobia Darko-Opoku, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting institutions that align with its mandate of advancing specialist healthcare training.
She noted that UGMC remains a priority for the Fund, stressing that strengthening the centre’s training capacity would not only enhance its institutional growth but also position it as a critical hub for specialist medical education in Ghana.
Ms. Darko-Opoku added that partnerships of this nature are essential to building a resilient healthcare system capable of meeting the country’s growing demand for specialist services.
