University of Ghana welcomes 16,000 fresh students to a transformative journey
The University of Ghana has welcomed over 16,000 fresh undergraduate students, with 54% females, to its vibrant community of learners, thinkers, and innovators.
Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Alfred Edwin Yawson, congratulated students on their admission and encouraged them to pursue excellence.
The university's five-year strategic plan (2024-2029) focuses on transformative student experience, impactful research, and commitment to faculty and staff.
Prof. Yawson urged students to familiarise themselves with the university's strategic priorities, mission, vision, and values, represented by the acronym TICES.
The university has implemented initiatives such as one student, one laptop, and Wi-Fi-enabled comfort zones to enhance learning.
Admission remains competitive, with efforts to increase inclusivity and access, including affirmative action policies for women and students with disabilities.
Prof. Yawson emphasised the importance of discipline, determination, and responsibility, encouraging students to uphold the university's core values of loyalty, respect, commitment, and integrity.
He also highlighted support services, including financial aid, accommodation, and counselling, to ensure students' holistic development.
