V/R: Work independently in the exam hall to avoid examination malpractices – GES Dir. to BECE candidates

The Volta Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Francis Yaw Agbemadi, has cautioned candidates in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) against engaging in examination malpractices. 

Mr Agbemadi, also urged the candidates to work independently in the examination hall.

“I want to also caution them against examination malpractices. I want to advise them that the examination is not different from what their teachers taught them, so, there is no need involving in examination malpractices which will lead to the cancellation of any of their papers," he said.

“We congratulate them for reaching this far, it is not easy. It is our hope that they all do well in the examination because this examination marks the beginning of their journey to the future. He said the resources of the country is like a big cake and is for everybody but it will take this examination to grant them the access to cut the cake,” the Volta Regional Director of the GES noted. 

Mr Agbemadi spoke to the media after leading a team of stakeholders who toured some examination centres in the Ho Municipality.

He revealed that the region registered 32,400 candidates from 1,116 schools comprising 16,293 males and 16,107 females who are writing the BECE at 108 centres across the eighteen (18) Districts with 22 special candidates.

The Ketu South Municipality leads the region with a total of 4,457 candidates, Ho Municipal with 3, 571 and Akatsi North District with 572 candidates.

In the Ho Municipality, a total of 3,571 candidates are taking part in the exam at 10 centres from 101 schools made up of 1,468 males and 1,503 females.

This year’s BECE began across the country on Monday, 7 August and will end on Friday, 11 August 2023.
