WASTEC fire: 14 on admission
Fourteen students of the Wa Secondary Technical High School in the Upper West Region have been hospitalised.
The students, were hospitalised after fire gutted the school.
One of the students is receiving treatment at the Upper West Regional Hospital while 13 others have been admitted at the Wa Municipal Hospital.
According to reports, the students are dealing with trauma following the fire that guttered the school’s girls’ dormitory.
The Ghana Education Service (GES), has said the affected students, are receiving counselling as a form of psychological support.
Meanwhile, management of the school has closed down the school temporarily.
This is to allow for investigations into the fire incident.
Fire razed through the girls’ dormitory of the Wa Secondary Technical School (WESTEC) in the Upper West Region, Sunday, 22 January 2023.
The fire is reported to have begun at about 8 p.m. and destroyed five rooms on the one-storey building that housed the girls.
Over 200 female students of the school have since been left stranded.
Fire fighters were on the scene to douse the fire and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the school.
The cause of the fire is not immediately known.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has however commenced investigations into the incident.
Another fire ioccurred in the school on Monday, 23 January 2023.
