Weija-Gbawe MCE unveils plans for new classrooms to address overcrowding

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Weija-Gbawe, Mr. Felix Odartey Lamptey, has announced plans to construct 13 new classroom blocks for the Gbawe Methodist Primary School, along with additional kindergarten facilities for the Gbawe Cluster of Schools.
The initiative is aimed at addressing severe overcrowding, as the cluster currently accommodates nearly 5,000 pupils.
Speaking to Class News reporter Samuel Addo during the launch of the Weija-Gbawe Teachers’ Awards at the Gbawe Cluster of Schools, Mr Lamptey warned that congestion in classrooms could undermine students’ academic performance.
To further improve the learning environment, he also pledged to build fence walls around Oblogo School to shield pupils from external distractions during lessons.
In his remarks, Mr Lamptey highlighted the central role teachers play in national development.
“To become a journalist, a lawyer, a president, an MCE or DCE, a Member of Parliament or a Minister—it all begins with a teacher,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the Teachers’ Awards initiative, promising to support efforts to celebrate and reward outstanding educators across the municipality.
