22-day dumsor for 71 areas in Accra

General News
Different parts of Ghana have experienced dumsor since the beginning of 2021

Some 71 areas in Accra will, from Monday, 28 June 2021, start experiencing intermittent disruptions in power supply, state power distributor Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced.

The load-shedding will be for 22 days.

The areas to be affected have been categorised into 6 groups.

Each will experience an outage per week 6:00 pm to 12:00 am until 19 July 2021.

According to state transmitter Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRDCo), the disruptions in power supply will allow it to complete the last phase of repair works on some bulk supply points and transmission cables in Accra.

The works will include an upgrade of the Volta-Achimota-Mallam transmission lines.

It is the last phase of ongoing repair and upgrade works in the power sector.

Announcing the dumsor timetable at a press conference on Wednesday, 23 June 2021, the Managing Director of ECG, Mr Kwame Agyeman-Budu, explained: “We have plans to start outages so that GRIDCo can continue the upgrading”.

“We want to notify the public that there is going to be some outages starting each day 6 pm to 12 midnight, and we’ll do our best to minimise the outages, but we want them to be informed that they should expect some outages within that period.”

“We’ve spoken to GRIDCo to speed up the work”.

“In all, we are taking 22 days to complete the lines, so hopefully by the end of the 22nd day,” he said.
