6 dead, many injured in Ghana Armed Forces recruitment stampede
It was a day meant for dreams to come true for hundreds of hopefuls vying to join the Ghana Armed Forces.
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, applicants gathered at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra for the commencement of the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise.
But what was supposed to be the start of a promising journey turned into a nightmare.
At around 6:20 AM, before the scheduled screening began, a sudden surge of applicants breached security protocols and rushed into the gates.
The unexpected crush led to a tragic stampede.
The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that 6 potential recruits lost their lives in the chaos, and many others were injured.
The injured are receiving emergency medical care at the 37 Military Hospital.
Medical teams are working tirelessly to stabilise the affected individuals.
The Ghana Armed Forces expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for a swift recovery for those injured.
Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces, signed the press release announcing the unfortunate incident.
The statement added that arrangements are being made to notify the families of the deceased.
The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that further updates on the situation will be communicated as necessary.
