A/R: Asokwa Queen-Mother declares first Saturday of every month as community Sanitation Day
The Queen-Mother of Asokwa, Nana Afia Adu Nyame Sarpong I, has announced the first Saturday of every month as a dedicated sanitation day for the Asokwa community, as part of efforts to promote cleanliness and prevent disease outbreaks.
The initiative, launched during a community clean-up exercise at Old Asokwa in the Asokwa Municipality, seeks to instil a culture of environmental responsibility among residents and strengthen community participation in maintaining hygiene.
Leading the exercise herself, Nana Afia Adu Nyame Sarpong I expressed deep dissatisfaction with the current state of sanitation in the area.
She criticised both the Old Asokwa Assembly Member and the Municipal Assembly for what she described as their failure to prioritise community sanitation and proper waste management.
“Cleanliness is a shared responsibility. We cannot wait for others to do what we must do ourselves. Every household must take part in keeping Asokwa clean,” the Queen-Mother stated.
She encouraged residents to take the monthly sanitation exercise seriously and to ensure that their surroundings remain tidy at all times.
Nana Afia Adu Nyame Sarpong I, further called on local authorities to complement community efforts with improved waste collection and enforcement of sanitation bylaws.
Several community members who participated in the clean-up exercise praised the Queen-Mother for her leadership and initiative.
They, however, echoed her sentiments, criticising the Assembly Member and the Unit Committee for neglecting their duties in addressing sanitation challenges.
The Queen-Mother reaffirmed her commitment to sustaining the programme, noting that collective responsibility and civic discipline are key to a cleaner, healthier Asokwa.
