Appiatse explosion: Bawumia gives GHS200K to survivors
The government will make available GHS200,000 to support the displaced victims of the explosion disaster at Appiatse in the Bogoso Municipality of the Western Region.
This was disclosed by Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia when he paid a visit to the explosion scene on Friday, 21 January 2022.
Dr Bawumia assured the displaced victims of the explosion that the government will ensure their needs are catered for.
“Today, I want to give thanks to the Catholic Church and the Father here who we have seen providing accommodation for the people who have been displaced”.
“We’ll do everything that we are able to do to provide the needs of all the displaced and to make sure all the sick are taken care of”.
He added: “…And we are presenting these things to the people through the municipal chief executive to make sure they’re distributed including a sum of GHS200,000 to take care of their initial need.”
Meanwhile, the government has promised to rebuild all the buildings collapsed by the disaster.
Dr Bawumia said: “For the houses that have been destroyed, we are already beginning to think about how to rehabilitate and rebuild the community here”.
“I want to assure Nananom that His Excellency has already given the directive: we have already spoken to the State Housing Corporation and are in consultation with the mining communities here”.
“We will quickly try to put in place facilities that will help those who have been displaced. That will be a priority for us.”
