Asantehene's entourage attacked in Techiman
Tensions flared between Techiman and Nkoranza youth in the Bono Region on Monday evening, leaving multiple individuals, including a child, injured after buses returning from Nkoranza to Kumasi were attacked.
The buses had earlier escorted the Asantehene to a funeral in Nkoranza before travelling back through the Techiman area.
Reports suggest the attack was in retaliation to an incident earlier in the day involving the Asanteman convoy. According to eyewitnesses, the convoy allegedly blocked the highway at Amamfom, chanting provocative slogans, including, “There is no man in Techiman.”
This act reportedly angered some youth in Techiman, who had previously issued threats to attack travellers using the route.
They followed through on their threats by targeting the returning buses, resulting in injuries.
The violent confrontation left several individuals injured, with victims, including a child, receiving medical attention.
The extent of their injuries remains unclear, but no fatalities have been reported.
The police have yet to comment on the incident, but the situation has heightened tensions between the two communities.
Authorities are expected to intervene to prevent further escalation.
Efforts are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the initial altercation and to hold those responsible for the attacks accountable.
