The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage has unveiled a line-up of activities to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the passing of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

At a press conference in Accra, Chairman of the Memorial Heritage, Mr Alex Segbefia, announced that the series of events is designed to honour the enduring legacy of the late statesman, who is fondly remembered for his humility, integrity, and dedication to national service.

The commemoration will begin on July 22, 2025, with a commemorative lecture at the Ohene Kofi Konedu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Themed “Atta Mills: A Case Study for the Fourth Republic,” the lecture will be delivered by Mrs. Charlotte Osei, former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, and chaired by Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff.

On July 24, 2025, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service will be held at Asomdwee Park in Accra—the final resting place of the late president.

The event will mark exactly 13 years since his passing and is expected to draw family members, dignitaries, friends, and citizens from across the country.

The commemoration will conclude with the Atta-Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament on July 26, 2025, at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.

The tournament pays tribute to one of Prof Mills’ lifelong passions—hockey—and aims to inspire youth development, discipline, and teamwork through sports.

Mr  Segbefia called on the media, civil society organisations, and the general public to participate actively in the events, noting that the legacy of President Mills belongs to all Ghanaians.

“The life of President Mills is a model of leadership rooted in peace, truth, and service. It is our collective duty to honour and preserve that legacy,” he said.
