Bawumia attends burial of late Ashanti Regional Chief Imam in Kumasi
The Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, joined thousands of Muslims in Kumasi on Wednesday to pay his last respects to the late Ashanti Regional Imam, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun.
Sheikh Haroun, 74, passed away on Tuesday night at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following a short illness.
Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by his 2024 Presidential running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and a delegation of Members of Parliament and senior officials, arrived in Kumasi on Wednesday morning for the burial rites.
In the presence of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, the Vice President visited the residence of the late Imam to offer prayers and condolences to the bereaved family.
The pre-burial prayers, known as Janazah, were conducted at the Kumasi Central Mosque, where Dr. Bawumia and the National Chief Imam joined thousands of Muslims from various backgrounds to observe the solemn service.
After the prayers, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun was laid to rest at the Tafo Cemetery in Kumasi, in accordance with Islamic customs.
The late Sheikh Haroun was remembered for his leadership and contributions to the Islamic community in the Ashanti Region and beyond. His passing marks a significant loss for the Muslim community in Ghana.
