An aspiring parliamentary candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai constituency, Mr Alfred Obeng, has donated 3,000 pieces of sanitisers and veronica buckets to be distributed among residents of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai constituency to fight the coronavirus.

Presenting the items, Mr Obeng said: “At this moment, it is believed that we are all aware of the existence of COVID-19 and its concomitant effects on humanity hence, I need not bother you on that. What is more important here is the preventive measures one needs to practise and the ingredients needed for that.

“This is the moment society needs us most to extend a helping hand to others. Obviously, it is not everybody who can afford to purchase a single piece of sanitiser easily to protect himself or herself. The government or state is playing her part and it is not out of order for individuals to contribute their quota in supporting the state to fight this deadly disease or pandemic that is wiping off humans on the surface of the earth and again has brought uncertainty to human life.

“It is very sad to hear the number of lives lost globally to the COVID-19 pandemic since its outbreak though none has been recorded in our constituency (Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai) and the Western North as a whole; we are thankful to the Almighty God.

"My piece of advice is that let us use these pieces of sanitisers for their intended purpose and further obey all the measures laid down by the government and the health professionals in order to eliminate the virus from the country and beyond".

He continued: “It is my humble prayer that these items being donated today, together with all the laid-down measures, will go a long way to protect all of us against this deadly disease which is gradually reducing the lifespan of mankind and the quality of life we have been enjoying over several decades.”

Ghana's confirmed COVID-19 caseload has jumped from 161 to 195 with five deaths as of 1 April 2020 Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu said.

Thirty-four new cases were recorded on Tuesday, 31 March.

The Greater Accra Region has 174 cases, the Northern Region has 10, the Ashanti Region has nine, the Upper West Region has one and the Eastern Region also has one case of COVID-19.

Three persons have recovered and have been discharged.
