Central Regional Minister orders rehabilitation of damaged boreholes in Gomoa Central

The Central Regional Minister, Mr. Ekow Panyin Eduamoah Okyere, has directed the Gomoa Central District Assembly to rehabilitate all damaged boreholes in the district in a bid to ease the ongoing water crisis caused by illegal mining activities.
During a tour of the affected communities, the Minister reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Assembly to restore access to safe water.
He assured residents that every damaged borehole would be repaired and urged them to remain calm as solutions are being implemented.
The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Mr. Kwame Asare Obeng, also pledged to support the efforts, noting that several boreholes had been constructed in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
He promised that all faulty boreholes would be fixed as an interim measure while awaiting the full utilisation of the Agona Kwanyarko Dam for water supply.
The District Chief Executive, Mr. Hackman Kobina Aidoo, disclosed that funds have already been allocated from the District Assembly’s Common Fund for the rehabilitation works.
He added that engineers have begun assessments, and some repairs are already underway.
More than 30 boreholes across various communities were found to be non-functional during the Minister’s inspection.
While some have since been repaired, authorities assured that the remaining will be fixed in the coming days to bring relief to residents grappling with the water shortage.
