The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that its District Electoral Officer (DEO) for the Afadjato South constituency in the Volta Region is under investigation for transporting election materials in a private vehicle without police escort.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 5 December 2024, when officers of the Ghana Police Service questioned the DEO after discovering the breach of protocol. The police have since taken custody of the election materials involved.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Chairman for Operations, Samuel Tettey, the EC acknowledged the officer's actions violated its established policies.

"The policy of the Commission is for its officers to transport all election materials in official vehicles with police escort where necessary," the statement read.

The EC assured the public that it is conducting internal investigations while cooperating fully with the police inquiry. Despite the breach, the Commission maintained that the integrity of the upcoming election in the constituency remains intact.

"We wish to assure the public that though the officer breached the policy of the Commission, the actions of the officer will not in any way compromise the elections in the Afadjato South constituency," the statement emphasised.
