Dome, Pillar 2 residents block major road in protest after flooding today

General News
Flood at Dome

Angry residents of Dome Pillar 2 in the Dome Kwabenya constituency of the Ga East Municipality in the Greater Accra Region have blocked the major road linking Dome Pillar 2 township to Christian Village after heavy rainfall this morning caused severe flooding in the area.

Several houses were submerged, and the residents blamed the intensity of the floodwaters on unauthorized structures erected along the riverbank.

It took the intervention of reinforcements from the Ghana Police Service, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), and the Ghana National Fire Service to bring the situation under control.

Immediately after a 10-minute downpour, the gutters and drainage systems in Dome Pillar 2 township were overwhelmed, with water levels rising above windows and flooding residents' homes. According to some residents, the gutters have been choked for some time, and repeated calls for authorities to address the issue have gone unanswered.

Speaking to the media at the scene, Ga East Municipal NADMO Director Seth Osei Kissi stated that the affected residents fear they will be carried away in the flood if proper help doesn’t arrive soon.
